Training Tomorrow’s Dancers – an International Conference of Dance Medicine and Science in Helsinki, Finland

Next summer a two-day conference will be held alongside the Helsinki International Ballet Competition. The themes of the first day are dancers’ training and recovery, over-loading condition, and mental coaching. The second day is focused on rehabilitation and biomechanics of the back and the lower limb, specifically related to dance. Both days consist of lectures and a movement session. Speakers of the conference include, for instance, professor Matthew Wyon (UK), physiotherapist Sue Mayes (AU), Dr. Liane Simmel (DE), physiotherapist Jarmo Ahonen (FI), mental coach Matti Henttinen (FI), Dr. Mikko Kirjavainen (FI).
The conference is aimed at dancers, dance educators, physiotherapists, physicians – anyone involved in the world of dance and interested in enhancing their practice.
The conference will be held at the Finnish National Opera from 1st to 2nd of June, 2016, from 8:30am to 4pm, with and additional free-of-charge late afternoon lecture on the first conference day. All lectures are held in English. A full programme and fees will soon be available.
