Professor Doris Laine, som har en l\u00e5ng karri\u00e4r som dansare bakom sig vid Nationalbaletten, blev inbjuden till juryerna f\u00f6r bland annat de internationella balett\u00e4vlingarna i Jackson, Moskva och Varna. Laines erfarenhet som domare i balettt\u00e4vlingar och hans omfattande internationella kontakter gav honom mod att b\u00f6rja bygga upp Helsingfors till en av de mest intressanta destinationerna i balettv\u00e4rlden.<\/p>\n<p>Till en b\u00f6rjan var Doris Laines id\u00e9 om en internationell balett\u00e4vling i Helsingfors tveksam. Helsingfors stad, betydande kulturfonder och representanter f\u00f6r n\u00e4ringslivet st\u00f6dde dock Laine och hans uppgift. Teaterinfocentret fungerade som kontor f\u00f6r den f\u00f6rsta balettt\u00e4vlingen, och t\u00e4vlingen h\u00f6lls p\u00e5 Helsingfors stadsteater genast efter midsommar 1984. T\u00e4vlingarna var en succ\u00e9 och det blev ocks\u00e5 en vinst \u2013 tack f\u00f6r detta till de t\u00e4vlande, juryn, publiken, samarbetspartnerna, t\u00e4vlingsarrang\u00f6rerna, passionerade och produktiva frivilliga samt Doris Laines gedigna kunskaper i balett och naturligtvis finsk sisu.<\/p>\n<p>Arvet efter Doris Laine Samarbetet mellan Finlands nationalopera och -balett och Helsingfors internationella balett\u00e4vling inleddes i mitten av 1990-talet. Doris Laine inbj\u00f6ds att leda balettkompaniet vid Berlins komiska opera och utn\u00e4mndes till hedersordf\u00f6rande f\u00f6r Helsingfors internationella balett\u00e4vling. D\u00e5varande chef f\u00f6r Finlands Nationalbalett, Jorma Uotinen, b\u00f6rjade som ny konstn\u00e4rlig ledare f\u00f6r t\u00e4vlingen. T\u00e4vlingens uppdrag f\u00f6rnyades och koreografierna f\u00e4stes mer uppm\u00e4rksamhet. Nationalbalettens senare konstn\u00e4rliga ledare Dinna Bj\u00f6rn, Kenneth Greve, Madeleine Onne och Javier Torres har vidareutvecklat Helsingfors internationella balett\u00e4vling.
