The next competition will be held at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet from 30 May to 6 June 2022. “This is a perfect time to turn our gaze to the next summer and the Töölönlahti bay when the Opera House will host our amazing international competition”, she rejoices.

We want to warmly thank our previous chair of the board, Artist Professor Jorma Uotinen, a legend in the Finnish dance scene. He has done significant work for the competition over the years.

The Helsinki International Ballet Competition, founded by Professor and prima ballerina Doris Laine-Almi (1931–2018) in 1984, is one of the world’s most highly regarded international ballet competitions. Held approximately every four years, the competition has served as a launchpad for the careers of several leading international dancers.

The 9th Helsinki International Ballet Competition, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, was originally scheduled to take place in June 2020. The application period for the next competition will start in autumn 2021. More information will be announced later.

Ticket sales will open in the online store and customer service of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in November 2021.
