“The preparations for HIBC 2022 are in full swing. We have come up with brand new ideas and exciting collaborations to take our prestigious event to the next level,” says Jorma Uotinen, the chairman of the board of the Helsinki International Ballet Competition Association. ”2022 is the centenary year of the Finnish National Ballet. We’re happy to be involved in showcasing world-class ballet and spreading the joy of dancing on this landmark occasion in Finnish dance art,” Uotinen says.
The 9th Helsinki International Ballet Competition, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, was originally scheduled to take place from 1 to 8 June 2020. The application process for the competition, which has been moved forward by two years, will be repeated. The competition organisers will contact the dancers selected for the 2020 event in person. The application period for the competition will start in autumn 2021, with more information about deadlines and methods to be announced later.
Ticket sales for the Helsinki International Ballet Competition will start in autumn 2021 in the online store and customer service of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. The tickets for the cancelled competition dates in 2020 will be refunded to customers. Detailed information about the refunds can be found at ibchelsinki.fi/tickets/.
The Helsinki International Ballet Competition, founded by professor and prima ballerina Doris Laine-Almi (1931–2018) in 1984, is one of the world’s most highly regarded international ballet competitions. Held approximately every four years, the competition has served as a launchpad for the careers of several leading international dancers.
